Inge Scholl

Inge Scholl (August 11, 1917 - September 4, 1998), born in present-day Crailsheim, was the daughter of Robert Scholl, the mayor of Forchtenberg, and was the sister of Hans and Sophie Scholl, who studied at the University of Munich in 1942, and were core members of the White Rose student resistance movement in Nazi Germany. Inge Scholl wrote several books about the White Rose after the war. However, according to the Center for White Rose Studies, she did not even "so much as listen to her siblings' talk", when they, during 1942, tried to convince her to take part.

Hansjörg Martin (1920-1999) was born in Leipzig. He was originally a painter. After the war, in which he had been active, he worked as a clown, a journalist, a set designer, playwright and author. He has written a lot of mystery novels. Most of them have been made into movies. Hansjörg Martin is said to be one of the most successful crime writers in Germany.

Carlo Collodi

Carlo Lorenzini (November 24, 1826 - October 26, 1890), better known by the pen name Carlo Collodi, was an Italian children's writer known for the world-renowned fairy tale novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio. During the Italian wars of Independence in 1848 and 1860 Collodi served as a volunteer with the Tuscan army. His active interest in political matters may be seen in his earliest literary works as well as in the founding of the satirical newspaper Il Lampione.

Daniel Defoe

DANIEL DEFOE (1660-1731) Daniel Defoe was born in London as the son of a butcher. In his youth, he travelled all over Europe as a merchant, and he joined the army in 1688. Before he started writing his first novel at the age of nearly sixty, he had also worked as an economist, a journalist and a spy. Robinson Crusoe is based on a true story which Defoe had heard about. In 1704, a Scotsman, Alexander Selkirk, had an argument with the captain of a ship and asked to be put ashore on an uninhabited island. He lived there alone until he was picked up by another English ship five years later.

Mark Twain

MARK TWAIN (1835 - 1910) Mark Twain's real name was Samuel Langhorn Clemens. The name Mark Twain originates from his time as a pilot on the Mississippi. Twain means 'two', and the second mark - mark twain - on the leadline showed the pilot that the river was two fathoms, or 3.6 metres, deep. He also worked as a printer, a gold digger and a journalist, and he stayed for some time in Europe. From 1867 he was a full time writer.
